Microsoft Boasts 2.3 Million IE9 Downloads in 24 Hours

Microsoft is boasting that 2.3 million copies of its latest browser, Internet Explorer 9, has been downloaded in a span of 24 hours. The IE9 browser was announced at the South by Southwest Interactive conference.

So how does IE9’s download numbers compare? Engadget says that despite being a popular download, the number here still trails Mozilla’s downloads for Firefox 3, which made it in the Guinness book of world records for over 8 million downloads in 2008. Since then, we have more competition with Google’s Chrome browser, Apple’s Safari browser, and a more modern Opera browser for the desktop. Additionally, IE9 is a PC-only download.
