Seagate Technology today announced it will begin shipping hybrid notebook drives in large volumes. Hybrid drives combine the large capacities of hard drives with a small amount of flash memory to deliver faster boot times, improved performance, greater reliability and lower power consumption. Seagate has seen up to 50% lower power consumption in testing.

Microsoft officially announced three new Zunes, including the 80GB Zune ($249), 4GB flash Zune ($149) and 8GB flash Zune ($199). The flash Zunes are available in pink, green, black and red. All of the new zunes have a touch-sensitive navigation button and play video.

Palm announced the Palm Centro will be available at Sprint stores for $99 starting October 14. Aimed at first-time smartphone buyers, the Centro is the company's smallest smartphone yet. The Palm Centro will run on Sprint's EVDO network to deliver web content, video and chat. 
HP introduced the Voodoo ENVY M:152 notebook for multimedia enthusiasts and gamers. The ENVY M:152 replaces the M:151 as Voodoo's 15.4-inch luxury notebook. The M:152 is highly customizable, with 22 colors to chose from. 
Toshiba's added NVIDIA SLI technology to its X205 gaming notebook series. The new Satellite X205 will be available in two models- the Satellite X205-SLi1 and the Satellite X205-SLi3. Both models feature dual NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT GPUs and are compatible with Microsoft DirectX 10. 
Dell's new XPS M1730 is now available on Dell's XPS shopping page. The XPS M1730 is 17-inch high-performance gaming notebook that's sure to impress power hungry gamers, but for now it's only available in a single configuration for $2,999. Beefier versions of the XPS M1730, and build-to-order options should be available soon.

Unlocking iPhones and adding third party applications can cause some major headaches. While 'jail breaking' your iPhone can free it from the AT&T network, Apple is doing everything it can to prevent it. Apple is refusing to service some users' iPhones that have third party apps and even threatening to blacklist them from further service. 
Sony announced the VAIO NR series notebook for consumers. The VAIO NR series is the cheapest Sony VAIO notebook to date, starting at $750. The 15.4-inch widescreen notebook is available in brown, bright white and granite. 
Microsoft announced details and pricing for Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. The new suite of office applications will be launched January 15, 2008. There will be three versions of Office for Mac, priced from $149 to $499.
