Vcommunicator Mobile Turns Army’s iPods into Arabic Translators

Vcommunicator The Vcommunicator Mobile is a tactical langage and cultural knowledge mission aid for the military. The U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division has 160 iPods loaded with Vcommunicator to help them communicate more effectively with Iraqi-Arabic and Kurdish speakers.

The Vcommunicator mobile comes loaded with mission-specific scenarios and dozens of phrases, videos and text to help troops communicate more effectively. If you’re supervising a checkpoint, just use your click wheel to select ‘checkpoint’ and then chose from a list of commonly used phrases ranging from “Peace be Upon You,” to “We need to search your car.” Users are then given phonetic translations and can even view a video that demonstrates the correct pronunciation and demonstrates appropriate body language for each phrase. If your language skills aren’t up to snuff, you can just show an Arabic script translation to whomever you’re communicating with.

VCom 3D designed Vcommunicator, along with a suite of software that allows its customers to create custom translations and animations.

This could be the first iPod application that can save lives.
