In the Apple notebook keynote Address, Steve Jobs and company talked a lot about progress in the educational retail markets, but they didn't talk at all about the needs of professional users. The MacBook Pro is a very impressive notebook in many regards, but it lacks many 'pro'fessional-grade features that are taken for granted on many PC notebooks. 
Apple's updated the MacBook Air with bigger drives and improved graphics. The MacBook Air now comes standard with a 120GB hard drive, rather than the 80GB drive found in previous models. A 128GB sollid state drive is now available on the $2,499 version of the MacBook Air. 
Apple announced a complete revamp of its MacBook and MacBook Pro lineup today. The new MacBooks and MacBook pros feature an NVIDIA chipset that will deliver dramatically better graphics than previous Apple notebooks. 
Samsung's announced it will enter the U.S. notebook market with a full line of notebooks including a lightweight netbook, a 16-inch entertainment notebook and just about every size in between the two. Until now, Samsung's sold notebooks overseas, but only sold the Q1 UMPC stateside. 
Toshiba's announced two new Satellite Pro notebooks today. The Satellite Pro S300M and Satellite Pro S300 are geared towards business users on a budget. All Toshiba Satellite Pro notebooks, including these two, now come standard with a two-year warranty. 
HP's having a ridiculous sale on its HP Pavilion HDX 16t notebook and offering $550 in total savings.For $949 you can get a very well-equipped entertainment notebook complete with a Blu-ray player. 
Apple's announced that some of its MacBook Pros have faulty NVIDIA graphics chips and that it will repair affected computers free of charge, even for those out of warranty. This summer, bad NVIDIA GeForcce 8600M GT graphics processors caused Dell and HP to issue recalls. 
Apple's hosting a press event in San Francisco on Tuesday Oct. 14 to announce its new line of MacBooks and MacBook Pros. Apple is expected to replace the MacBook's plastic shell with an aluminum casing similar to the current MacBook Pro's.

Acer announced two WiMax-enabled notebooks today that will be sold to customers in Baltimore, home of the first U.S. WiMax network. XOMH is rolling out the next-generation wireless broadband network, which promises downlink speeds of 2-4 Mbps and uplink rates of 1-2 Mbps. 
Circuit City is now selling HP's cheapest 17-inch notebook, the Compaq Presario CQ70. This notebook is relatively basic, but if you're yearning for a big display on a small budget it's worth a look.

The guys over at 9to5 Mac claim to have insider info about Apple's 'Brick,' which isn't a MacBook at all, but an innovative manufacturing process that may allow for a sleeker MacBook case and lower prices.
