With the release of the Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate on February 10 we expected it to go gold very soon. It looks like either March 14 or the 24th will be the day. Specifically 9:00 AM on the 14th is the moment when Microsoft should make its latest browser available for downloaded. This comes from a source cited by Download Squad.
Apparently, the thinking on the part of Microsoft is to launch their new browser in conjunction with the South by Southwest (SXSW) gathering in Austin Texas. Enagadget Also cited the Twitter feed of the Indian branch of the Microsoft Developer Network, which mentioned March 24 as the launch date in India coinciding with that countries Tech.ED 2011 conference. We doubt that Microsoft would release it on two different dates.
Whichever date is correct, users can download Internet Explorer 9 sometime this month. To learn more about what might be included in the new browser check out the overview of the release candidate version that we showed you earlier. If you can’t wait to get a look at it, then read our how to install the release candidate. Most of what’s new has to do with making it look and behave more like Windows 7. It takes advantage of Adobe Flash 10.2, which adds hardware acceleration. Video and graphics should look better.
Below is a video demonstrating Millionaire City on Internet Explorer 9.
If you’ve already installed the beta version, then you will want to read our how to on removing it prior to downloading the final version.
The question is should you use Internet Explorer 9? For quite some time it has been the primary target for malicious Internet attacks. Microsoft has done a good job of improving the security of the browser. But we actually prefer either Google’s Chrome or Firefox two Internet Explorer 9. Because they are both free there is no reason not to try them. They both offer a lot of extensions or plug-ins to extend the functionality of the browser and make them easier to use on many different websites. IE9 does as well, but the offerings are not as good.
