HP has refreshed the EliteBook notebooks today with the latest Sandy Bridge processors, larger touchpads, enhanced usability and durability options as well as a facelift that gives a sleeker and sexier new look to the flagship business notebooks from HP. The HP EliteBook 8560p is the largest EliteBook with a 15.6″ display and is accompanied by a smaller 14″ EliteBook 8640p notebook.
HP EliteBook 8560p Quick Specs:
The HP EliteBook 8560p business class notebooks are powered by the new Second Generation Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 processors. These numerous Sandy Bridge processor options will be aired with up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM and numerous hard drive options including up to a 750GB 7200RPM solution, self encrypting drive options and several SSD choices up to 160GB. Users can connect external devices with the USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports.
As far as graphics go the notebooks will use the new integrated graphics processor that is built into the Sandy Bridge processors and a discrete AMD Radeon HD 6740M GPU with 1GB dedicated Video RAM. Theses GPUs will power the 15.6″ display which comes standard with a 1366×768 resolution, but can be upgraded all the way up to full 1080P HD resolution.
The upgrade bay on the 8560p can be used to hold either an optical drive or a secondary hard drive to expand the usefulness of the notebook. There are also numerous wireless options including cellular connectivity and Bluetooth 2.1 EDR.
HP EliteBook 8560p Durability:
The EliteBook 8560P gains many new durability features including an enhanced Duracase which is optimized to prevent damage when the notebook is placed in a backpack. The new DisplaySafe frame is a doubleshot rubber ring that runs along the outside of the display to absorb shock in a backpack. This keeps the display from rubbing on the keys and keeps papers and debris from getting in while in transport.
The display has an all new barrel designed hinge which provides a more durable hinge performance for longer notebook life.
Other durability features include microscreen filters that are placed over each vent to keep dust from settling on important components and reducing the life cycle and performance of the notebook over time.
Another improvement is the larger keyboard drainage hole which along with other enhancements allows the new EliteBooks to better handle spills that would sink a traditional computer.
The EliteBook 8560p is rated to Mil-STD 810G for drop, vibration, dust, humidity, altitude and high temperature allowing for use in harsh environments.
HP EliteBook 8560p Features:
Several new features can be found on the EliteBook 8650P notebooks including a new island style keyboard that rounds out the new sleeker design. The island style keyboard includes a dedicated number pad and the keys rise out of of the same metal finish that the rest fo the 8650p is encased in.
Another new feature on the 8650p is the dramatically larger touchpad which now supports gestures. The new larger trackpad grows in size without sacrificing the Point Stick and second set of buttons which many users must have.
Aside from the keyboard and mousepad users will appreciate the simplified buttons and LED placement. HP has moved LED indicators and moved to a more precise indicator so that the LEDs are not blinking and distracting you all day long.
Another new feature that IT administrators will love is the ability to get to the inside of the 8650p by removing one panel that requires no tools. If they want to keep users out this panel can be secured with a security screw provided by HP, but by default it will be simple to open up for maintenance and cleaning.
The 8650p also supports docking stations and AMD Eyefinity Technology to handle numerous displays.
HP EliteBook 8560p Battery Life:
The EliteBook 8560p has numerous battery solutions depending on your needs, but the most impressive is the ability to achieve up to 32 hours of battery life with HP Ultra-Capacity battery.
HP EliteBook 8560p Pricing and Availability:
The HP EliteBook 8560p will be available on March 15th stating at $1,099.
