These are the first pics of the Acer Aspire One, a low-priced mini notebook that'll compete with the Eee PC, HP Mini-note 2133 and Dell's Mini. Competition in this market is really heating up and it'll be very interesting to see if the average consumer starts picking these things up in serious numbers.
I didn't realize Best Buy was struggling so badly that it had to resort to this "tribute" to Heath Ledger just a few hours after his death. Someone that works at the Missin Valley San Diego Best Buy threw a few DVDs on a table and erected a sign in the same format of a tombstone (name, dates of birth/death and a couple of lines about how the person's going to be remembered) before many even knew he had passed away.
Joao Oliveira won HP's and MTV's Take Action, Make Art global design competition last year with his "Asian Odyssey" design. I met Joao at CES 2008 in Las Vegas to check out his design, which will be appear on a special edition dv2700 series notebook.
It's that time of the year again when most guys have given up on their new years resolution and are about to forget to buy their significant other something romantic for Valentines Day. If you want to take care of one of those problems, check out Sony's limited editon Red Collection bundle. This Valentines Day package includes a red VAIO CR305 notebook, a red carrying case, matching mouse and a multi-colored hearts key chain.
The MacBook Air's stirred up some interesting discussion about what's expected of an ultraportable notebook. Lenovo's answer is the ThinkPad X300 series, which features a 64GB solid state drive, three USB ports, a DVD burner. Not bad for a 2.5 pound package.
I caught up with Ravi Sood, of HP's gaming division. Ravi's brother founded VooDooPC in 1991 to make performance PCs and sold the company in late 2006 to HP.
Gateway's now offering some more design options on its M-Series and T-Series notebooks. The company is following the industry trend of offering more personalization options. I just snapped some pics of the the LapDome at MacWorld. The LapDome is basically a tent for your laptop so you can use it as your 'outdoor office.' I think they jacked the mini-display tents from REI and relabeled them as 'laptop' shades, but whatever...
Rhino Skin introduced a new anodized aluminum case for MacBoks at MacWorld. The case is like a laptop sleeve on steroids. It's super tough, but there's zero room for accessories.
Andreas Haas, the CEO of Axiotron and inventor of the ModBook, showed Notebooks.com the latest version of the Modbook, which has a mirror finish and a new application called Axiotron Quick Clicks, which makes it easier to enter commonly used key combos.
Here's the first MacBook Air ad, with the tagline "the world's thinnest notebook." The commercial shows how the MacBook Air can fit inside an inter-office envelope, but doesn't show a single other feature.
A couple of hours after posting some pics and videos of the MacBook Air at MacWorld I got a text message alert that my wife had just updated her status on Facebook to "...secretly hopes Xavier gets the MacBook Air." Not wanting to disappoint her, I headed over to Apple.com and ordered one, which should arrive in a couple of weeks. Here's some serious one-of-a-kind bling for your iPhone. These iPhone cases are made out of gold carbon fiber leather. The Case-Mate CEO was trying to explain the process of how the gold is woven into the carbon, which is some how bonded with the leather, but I was too mesmerized by the sparkling diamonds to pay too much attention.
When Jobs said the MacBook Air was thin, he wasn't kidding. I spent some quality time with a MacBook Air and snapped this pic of my iPhone next to it. The base of the MacBook Air, which holds all the guts and brains of the laptop, is actually thinner than my iPhone!
I just spent about 30 minutes playing with a MacBook Air at MacWorld 2008. The MacBook Air is impressively thin, but Apple's asking users to make too many trade offs. Check out the quick video walk-through and photos below.
