Apple Announces New MacBook Air Notebooks, 13.3″ and 11.6″ Models with Flash Storage

At the end of the Back to the Mac event Steve Jobs pulled his famous “one more thing” and introduced a pair of new MacBook Air notebooks with flash memory, high resolution screens and more. The 11.6″ MacBook Air and the 13.3″ MacBook Air devices are available today starting at just $999.

The new MacBook Air notebooks are powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor clocked at 1.4GHz on the 11.6″ MacBook Air and 1.86GHz on the 13.3″ MacBook Air.

The 13.3″ MacBook Air packs in a high res 1440 x 900 display, which offers more screen real estate to get your work done. The smaller 11.6″ MacBook Air comes with a 1366 x 768 resolution display and both pack in a full size keyboard and a full size trackpad so that you don’t have to compromise.

The new MacBook Air ditches the traditional Hard drive to deliver flash memory that provides an instant on experience with faster performance and  more reliability. The new solid state flash technology allows for an instant on experience and silent operation. The storage sizes are 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.

The new 13.3″ MacBook Air may only be .68″ thick at the most and .11″ thick at the smallest, weighing 2.9 pounds, but it comes with a complete Unibody construction for rigidity and durability. The 11.6″ MacBook Air weighs in at 2.3 pounds and also features a unibody construction.

When it comes to battery life, Jobs slammed the ratings used on PCs and claims that their more stringent testing will give the 13.3″ MacBook Air 7 hours of life when browsing the web and the 11.6″ MacBook Air will get 5 hours.  Both claim up to 30 days standby time.
