Dell will open two retail stores later this year that will hopefully be more successful than Gatewayâ€â„¢s retail failure. This news comes as Appleâ€â„¢s about to open its 24-hour computer mecca in NYC. There will be two major differences between the i-everything and the PC version- you wonâ€â„¢t actually be able to buy a computer at the store, and Dell has yet to plan a Genius-Bar-esque service center. Instead, there will be lots of computers where you can order your computer.
I can respect Dellâ€â„¢s intentions of staying true to its direct approach, but the company should also respect the fact that customers have different needs. Why not stock a few units for shoppers in a hurry? No stock will mean no crowds checking out the new products.
The first will open at NorthPark Center in Dallas, Texas followed by a second store Palisades Center in West Nyack, New York.
