We’ve been expecting a new ultrathin notebook from Dell to replace the discontinued Adamo line and it looks like we finally have a name and a first look. The Dell XPS 15z is expected to arrive soon with sexy looks and plenty of power and a 15.6″ display.
Traditionally, ultrathin notebooks have been held back by low power processors, but this time around we are expecting to see Sandy Bridge Core i5 and Core i7 processors inside a super thin design.
Instead of competing directly with the incredibly crowded 11.6″ or 13.3″ ultraportable notebook line, Dell has decided to focus on delivering a crazy thin 15.6″ notebook in a sexy package. So far we know that the notebook will be made with some “special material”, which appears to be a metal alloy of some type.
The Dell XPS 15z looks like it will come with a user replaceable battery with a push button battery meter and a slot loading DVD drive tucked into a thin package. The teaser video shows us the island style keyboard, likely backlit, and gives us a glimpse of ornately cut speaker grilles which we hope are backing some Dolby Home Theater v4 audio. If you look closely, you will also see what appears to be a pair of USB 3.0 ports.
Dell hasn’t officially announced any pricing for the Dell XPS 15z, but previous rumors have pointed to a price of under $1,000. If Dell can pull off a 15.6″ ultrathin Sandy Bridge notebook with USB 3.0, premium sound, backlit keyboard and a metal body; well, Dell could have a winner.
