Microsoft Readies Bing Rewards, Ignores the Fact That Other Devices Exist

Microsoft is gearing up Bing Rewards, a search engine loyalty program that will reward frequent users with points. Earn enough points and you can redeem them for gift cards or products. In order to earn Bing Rewards points, computer users are required to install the Bing Bar toolbar. The toolbar requires a Windows machine running Internet explorer and a Live ID, ignoring the fact that a sizable chunk of the population uses other browsers and non-Windows devices.

This scheme isn’t entirely new for Microsoft. Microsoft shut down Bing Cashback after some very embarrassing incidents, including one that prevented Black Friday shoppers from scoring deals at HP.com and other major online outlets.

Signing up for Bing Rewards is worth 250 credits. Five Bing searches earns one Bing Reward point.Bing users will receive extra points for setting Bing as their default browsers and trying new Bing features.
