Northwest Pilots Were Distracted by Laptops, Overshot Minneapolis by 150 Miles

We all know we shouldn’t use our laptops while driving, but apparently two Northwest pilots didn’t get the memo. The pair overshot Minneapolis by 150 miles because they were distracted while using their personal laptops.

The pair have already be suspended and from the looks of it will lose their jobs. Rather than concentrating on their flight, they were discussing future flight schedules.

The pilots said there was “a concentrated period of discussion where they did not monitor the airplane or calls” from air traffic control, though both said they heard conversation on the radio, the report said.

Neither pilot responded to messages from Northwest while air traffic control lost contact. The pilots didn’t monitor the plane or keep track of where they were for quite some time. Apparently, it took a flight attendant to alert them to the fact that they were in the air when they should’ve already been on the ground.

Read more about the incident and watch what one of the pilots had to say over at CNN.
