Intel X25-M Solid State Drive Reviewed

Hubert from Ubergizmo recently reviewed the Intel X25-M solid state drive by popping it into his aging Sony VAIO SZ notebook. The results were stunning, but $600 is still too much to pay for 80GB of storage no matter how fast it is.

He compared the Inel X25-M SSD to the notebook’s original Seagate Momentus 5400.2 100GB hard drive and an upgraded 7200RPM WD Scorpio drive. The VAIO SZ’s PCMark 05 HDD score went from 2996 to 18817, rivaling speedy desktop drives. More impressively, applications started up twice as fast with the solid state drive.

Intel’s definitely got something good going here, but most consumers will pick capacity over performance any day, especially at these prices.
