Welcoming Ben Lang to the Notebooks.com Team

I’d like to welcome Ben Lang to the Notebooks.com news and reviews team. Ben is an experienced blogger and will be offering his point of view on technology from the University of Hawaii, where he is studying computer science.

Ben just started his first week of classes and is using quite a few devices during his studies. He’s using a HP Pavilion tx2000z Tablet PC, a Sony UX180 UMPC and a HP Mini 1000. His phone of choice is the iPhone 3GS. I’m sure he will quickly build a reputation as his dorm’s go-to tech guy.

ben_lang_headshotHe will share how he uses mobile technology in school, review products and write guides. His first blog post from Hawaii explains how students can use Gmail to manage their school email accounts.

I’ve spent a lot of time talking to Ben this summer and am very excited to have him on board. I only wish I was wise enough when I was his age to move to Hawaii for four years.

Here’s a Q&A I recently had with Ben:

What are you going to school for?

Ben: I’ll be attending school and focusing on computer science. I work a lot with computers already and I’m hoping to expand my knowledge of their inner workings to achieve a deeper understanding of the machines that I use for work and entertainment on a daily basis. I would like to focus my computer science learning in the art sector, hopefully learning about the graphical elements of software as well as 3D design.

What do you hope to do when you graduate from college?

Ben: In school I would like to focus on computer science as I mentioned, and I would also love to apply that knowledge to the art field. Hopefully I can find my way into some sort of graphical work whether it be with a game or software company. Graphical user interfaces have always been something that interest me. I’m sure many people with my interests probably have a similar aspiration; I’d love to work for Google some day.

How do you think you’ll use all of your gadgets in college?

Ben: I’m sure I’ll be using gadgetry every day. In high school I use technology and gadgets to greatly enhance my productivity. One of the biggest needs of mine that is filled with technology use is keeping my tasks in order. A high quality task list is something I need to function, and I’ll be using software solutions to make sure that I can see everything I need to do on all of the different devices that I’ll be using.

Why are you writing for Notebooks.com?

Ben: I’m writing for Notebooks.com because I’d love to delve deeper into the laptop world and help people find a computer that they will love. For my friends, I’m always to go-to guy for computer advice and purchasing decisions. I’d like to be able to provide that same kind of advice to the greater web audience, beyond the much smaller group that is my personal network.
