ZoomSystems: Ultimate Last-Minute Christmas Shop

ZoomSystems runs electronics vending machines for Best Buy, SonyStyle and other retailers at airports, resorts and other high-traffic locations. The stores never close, so if you can still buy an an iPod, PSP or digital camera if you land at your Christmas destination empty-handed.

The shopping experience is a lot like shopping online. There are product info pages on the machines’ displays so you can compare multiple products. The prices at the ZoomShops aren’t discounted like you’ll find online, but the extra cash is well worth the convenience.

I’ve seen these stores at airports several times, but made my first ZoomShop purchase in September at SFO. I was all packed for our trip to Italy and needed a compact point and shoot to supplement my bulky Nikon D300. Luckily there was a Best Buy machine located right next to my gate that offered a handful of Nikon, Kodak and Canon cameras. There was a SonyStyle ZoomShop right next to it so I had a pretty good selection to choose from.

The experience piqued my interest in the machines and I met with Stephanie Bowler from ZoomSystems to learn more about the company. The company is growing fast and I think it has a ton of potential.
