Dell Studio 14z Review: What’s Great? What’s Missing?

For the last few weeks I've had the opportunity to use the Dell Studio 14z laptop while I test out Phoenix Technologies new Laptop location technology service called FailSafe. The Dell Studio 14z is one of the most portable full size Dell laptop's to hit the market and starts at $699. The Studio 14z ditches the optical drive to cut the weight down to 4.3 pounds and when combined with the slim design makes for an attractive packaged 14" laptop. You can get the 14z in Black Chainlink, Ruby Red, Midnight Blue, Spring Green and Plum Purple. Overall the Studio 14z is a good laptop with a few quirks but in the end the extras make up for most of the shortcomings.

Two Thirds of Mac Users Willing to Give Windows 7 a Try!

That's right; in a recent survey by Retrevo, a consumer electronics shopping site, 67% percent of Mac users would take Windows 7 for a spin if it was free! Before Steve Jobs has a heart attack or Balmer starts sweating up a storm with his victory dance; take note that 97% of Mac owners surveyed said that they wouldn't even think about switching back to Windows full time. But just because Windows 7 won't win back many Mac users doesn't mean it hasn't caught the attention of PC users in a big way.

TechVi: Opinions on the $800 Nokia Booklet 3G at BestBuy

Not too long ago Nokia announced a new Netbook that among other things; had a built in 3G modem, 12 hour battery life and an aluminum chassis to top it off. Given the netbook moniker it was surprising to see the price for the Nokia Booklet 3G come in at $800; which is a big jump from traditional netbooks. The latest news is that Best Buy will be selling the Nokia Booklet 3G and Randall Bennett, the host at TechVi, was able to chat with Erica Ogg of CNet and Brad Linder of Liliputing to find out what they think of the Nokia Booklet 3G and its $800 price tag.

Will Windows 7 Mean More Expensive Netbooks?

The Industry Standard reports that the introduction of Windows 7 in October could bring a price increase for netbooks as Microsoft will likely ask for more than the $15 it currently charges for manufacturers to install Windows XP. An analyst speaking to the Standard feels that with Windows 7 coming to netbooks we'll see prices rise and $300 netbooks become a thing of the past. Well Windows based $300 netbooks anyway.
