Dell Streak Will Be Available This Friday

Dell announced on Tuesday that their 5-inch tablet, the Dell Streak, will be available this Friday, August 13th. Pre-orders for the new Android tablet are available now.

The 5-inch Dell Streak, capable of making phone calls, is more of a large smartphone than it is a tablet. Some of the Dell Streak’s features are:

  • Android 1.6 OS
  • 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
  • 512MB ROM + 512MB SDRAM
  • 5.0-megapixel rear-facing auto-focus camera
  • Front facing VGA camera
  • 5-inch damage-resistant Gorilla glass screen

The Dell Streak has access to the Android Marketplace. However, with an old version of Android, many apps may not function correctly or work, period. Many speculate the device will soon get an update with the Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system.

The Dell Streak is now available for pre-order, at $299.99 with a new two-year contract with AT&T, or $549.99 without a contract. It will officially go on sale this Friday, August 13th. Those who pre-order the Dell streak will receive free, two-day shipping via a coupon. They will also be able to purchase a Plantronics Bluetooth headset for a mere $0.99.
