Samsung’s Galaxy S smart phone will support the new Wi-Fi Direct certification which allows for direct connection between two Wi-Fi enabled devices so long as one of is designed with the new spec built-in. It is like Bluetooth only over Wi-Fi.
The Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 Android smart phone will have the new Wi-Fi Direct certification and is now listed on the Wi-Fi Alliance’s list of devices.
Samsung is first in line with a Wi-Fi Direct device. The result is that as a result of a firmware update, users will be able connect the phone to other Wi-Fi devices directly. Potentially this could mean things like wireless video or wireless syncing with a PC could be possible. The update is not ready yet, but with this certification could be comi soonng.
Other devices on the list include Wi-Fi adapters from Atheros, Broadcom, Intel, Realtek and others.
