Adobe Photoshop CS5 ‘Content Aware’ Demo

Adobe’s getting ready to launch Creative Suite 5, which includes an updated version of Photoshop. The application is used by countless creative professionals, including professional photographers and editors.

A new Photoshop CS5 feature called ‘Content Aware Fill’ CS5 is simply magical. The engineers at Adobe have somehow taught Photoshop to automatically understand what objects are and how to automatically repair or remove them from photos. Don’t like a tree in your landscape? No problem, the new tool will erase it and you’ll have a big blue sky in its place.

It’s been possible to do some of what’s demonstrated in the video below with previous versions of Photoshop, but it was a manual process. This feature alone will justify the cost of upgrading to CS5 for many photographers.

One of Adobe’s product managers put together this video demo of the tool in action. Of course Adobe’s offering examples of the feature working reasonably well and its yet to be seen how effective professionals will find the tool. It’s pretty clear that photo editors will still have to refine the context aware fills, but it’s miles ahead of the tools found in Photoshop CS4 or any other image editor I’ve seen.

If this demo is any indication, Adobe has a real winner on its hands.
