Apple Getting Ready to Launch New iPhone?

Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference is getting underway today and a new iPhone may be announced. Apple will definitely be releasing iPhone 3.0, new software that will significantly enhance current and future iPhones.

Apple’s taken its online store offline this morning, as they normally do in the midst of announcing new hardware.

Rumors have been circulating over the past several weeks about new iPhone hardware. Several sites have posted pictures of a new iPhone that has a matte-finish and what appears to be a forward-facing camera.

Several bloggers are live-blogging the event. Sierra Modro is going to be posting her thoughts over at GottaBeMobile.com.
Arnold Kim is live-blogging at MacRumors.com. Engadget and Gizmodo have teams covering the event and will be posting live updates in rapid-fire fashion.

My money is on new iPhone hardware. The iPhone 3G is almost a year old and new hardware will mean a big boost in sales. Apple and AT&T have cleared out iPhone 3G stock, including refurbished models over the past several weeks.

A new, improved iPhone will be a serious blow to Palm’s Pre which hit Sprint store shelves Saturday.
