It seems like Negorponte and co. have been working forever on the One Laptop Per Child project forever, but their hard work is about to pay off. The first $100-ish laptops will roll off the assembly line late this year, with production getting into full swing early in 2007. Quanta, a Taiwanese manufacturer, will build between 5 and 10 million laptops next year. The first orders are going to students in Thailand, Argentina, Brazil, Libya and Nigeria.
