HP is Not Exiting the PC Business

HP has officially responded to rumors on the Internet that it will be selling off its PC business, dismissing claims by the Commercial Times calling and calling them irresponsible reporting. The company says that the rumors that it was exiting the PC business were flawed as “HP runs the world’s largest PC business and it is core to HP’s strategy.” According to HP, “Irresponsible reporting by Taiwan’s Commercial Times, suggesting that HP might sell its PC business, should be dismissed as market rumor and speculation.”

Rumors that HP may sell off its PC business were originated by Chinese publication the Commercial Times. The paper reported that both Lenovo and Foxconn were likely candidates to buy out the division from HP, but Samsung may edge out the two with its own aggressive plans in the computer market:

Since Samsung has recently been working aggressively on its notebook brand business, causing its notebook brand clients from the component business to start reducing their orders as a counter measurement, acquiring HP’s PC business should help the company resolve the issues, while helping to digest any extra capacity generated in the future, the paper explained.

Since the rumors appeared, the DigiTimes noted that this was unlikely as the PC business “still contributed stable profits and the company is currently still the largest vendor in the global notebook market, as well as both the key markets Europe and the US.”
