Dell Gets Unlikely Help From Apple to Regain Number 2 PC Market Share Spot

In the fourth quarter of 2010, Dell edged out rival Acer to re-claim the second place PC vendor spot behind HP in terms of market share. Dell managed to this through an unlikely friend–Apple’s iPad. As the iPad cannibalized consumer notebook and netbook sales, of which Acer is heavily invested in, Dell remained strong in the corporate and enterprise PC business, helping it to edge out Acer as Acer lost ground on consumer sales to Apple.

The report put out by iSuppli shows that PC sales continue to be strong. Sales were up nearly 5% in Q4 2010 when compared to the same period in 2009. Over 93 million PCs were shipped.
