Samsung QX410 Reviewed: Packs Power and 6 Hour Battery for under $800

Samsung makes some nice notebooks, we’ve reviewed and enjoyed the Samsung RF510 which won an Editor’s Choice award, so we took notice when LaptopThoughts posted a review of the newer and slimmer Samsung QX410. This 14″ notebook is able to deliver both power and portability at an attractive price point. The review is of the Canadian version, but you can find the US Version, the Samsung QX410-J01 for under $800 at Best Buy.

The Samsung QX410 is powered by a 2.53GHz Intel Core i5 processor with the ability to reach 2.8GHz when TurboBoost kicks in and comes with a NVIDIA GeForce 310M GPU w/ 512MB of RAM as well as 4GB of system memory. The 14″ display has a 1366×768 resolution, which is common for notebooks in this size, but a bit low for the reviewer. Rounding out the notebook is a 640GB hard drive, DVD/CD writer, Ethernet, SD card reader,  WiFi and a webcam with a built in mic. The notebook also has HDMI output.

When it comes to the Samsung QX410’s build quality Dunn says that it is close to what you would find on a MacBook Pro, but not quite there. Given the price difference, close will likely be good enough for many end users who are looking for something that is a step above the normal build quality found in the $500 to $700 notebook price range.

Gaming on the Samsung QX410 is “acceptable” with decent framerates and quality reported while playing Call of Duty 4. In the video review of the Samsung QX410 Dunn shows off a Call of Duty 4 level and even though it’s not a gaming laptop it will handle the needs of a user that wants to do some mainstream gaming.

Another noteworthy point is the battery of the Samsung QX410 which came close to 6 hours in the web browsing battery test with the screen set at 50%. Pretty decent for a laptop with this power in this price range.
