HP announced a 2011 refresh to their HP ProBook B Series including the HP ProBook 6560B, a 15.6″ notebook with a new bead-blasted aluminum cover in tungsten, a magnesium reinforced ABS chassis and a bottom that helps protect against liquid spills that might potentially damage the system as the user is working. Also included in this refresh is the smaller HP ProBook 6360B which is similar but only has a 13.3″ screen and the 14″ ProBook 6460B.
The CPU is the 2nd generation Sandy Bridge Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 depending on the configuration purchased. The Core i3 and i5 come with dual-core processors and the i7 is a powerful quad-core processor. Thanks to these high specs, this should be a powerful system, able to handle processor intensive tasks.
The memory configurations will include up to 16GB of DDR3 SDRAM with 2, 4, or 8GB SODIMMs. There are a lot of storage options with fast 7200 rpm optical drives in 250, 320, 500 or 750 GB SATA II drives or an option 320GB 7200 rpm self encrypting drive in the event that extra security is needed. For those wanting something faster at a premium HP is offering either a 128GB or 160GB solid state drive.
The computer has an “Upgrade Bay” which can include a Blu-ray drive that also burns DVDs, an ordinary DVD burner, a simple DVD reader, or even a secondary 500GB hard drive. If the buyer doesn’t need any of these, it can come empty.
The 15.6″ display will be powered by Intel HD Graphics 3000 chips. The resolution is only 1366×768 which is average. If the user wishes, they may choose the more powerful AMD HD 6470M graphics processor with 512MB of DDR video memory. Games and multimedia will work nicely on this machine with that option included.
The keyboard on the computer is full-sized with a large touchpad and optional pointing stick. There are also special launch buttons which can be used to launch popular apps and power the QuickWeb as well as volume. The smaller 6360B does not the number pad.
These come with HP’s ProtectTools for enhanced security and data protection, HP Power Assistant which should provider better battery life, and HP QuickWeb which allows user to get online quickly without having to do a full boot into Windows.
Above is the optional docking station for the HP ProBook 6360B connected to the computer.
Other specs include HD Audio with SRS Premium sound, jacks for stereo in/out, a stereo mic jack and an option HD webcam with integrated mic.
Networking support includes an options HSDPA mobile broadband modem or an EVDO modem (not available till 2Q 2011). The first will run on networks from AT&T and T-Mobile while the later is geared for Verizon and Sprint networks. Other wireless connectivity includes Intel 802.11 a/b/g/n or just b/g/n. Alternatively there is also available Broadcom a/b/g/n or just b/g/n wireless networking. Bluetooth 2.1+EDR is also available.
For wired connections there is Gigabit LAN port and a legacy 56K modem port. Other ports include 3 USB 2.0, 1 eSATA/USB 2.o combo port, VGA, DisplayPort, firewire, and a docking connector and secondary battery connector. There is also an ExptressCard slot and an SD/MMC flash card reader.
