Apple Relaxes Return Policy for Water Damaged iPods

If the new documentation reportedly being shared with Apple Authorized service providers is to be believed Apple is relaxing the company’s return policy for water damaged iPods.

Up until now Apple was very strict about the water sensors embedded in the headphone jack of the iPod Touch and iPhone which turns pink if exposed to water. The problem is that these water sensors are extremely sensitive with some reports that sweating at the gym or holding your iPod with a balmy palm could trigger the sensor.

As you can see in the image below, from igeneration.fr, Apple is allowing warranty repair if there are no other signs of external damage.

It’s possible that this change came out of a recent lawsuit filed by a 13 year old who claimed that her iPhone 3G had not been in contact with water, but was still denied warranty repair.
