Box.net Upgrades Free plan to 5GB Storage

Good news for cloud storage users, Box.net has upgraded the free plan for consumers to 5GB of storage. Box.net provides users with a cloud storage solution for sharing files and syncing files to your desktop.

The new larger storage solution will prove helpful for many users, but unfortunately the free personal plan is limited to a max file size of 25 MB so while Box.net is still a great solution for storing many file types including high res images you won’t be using the free plan to transfer an HD video anytime soon.

You can see Box.net in action in the video below:

Box.net also provides mobile access with apps for the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Android, Blackberry and a mobile web version for free on the go access.

Additional space and larger file size limits can be purchased starting at 9.99 a month and range up to 50GB of storage and 1 GB file size limits. Business and enterprise users can gain 2GB file size limits and much higher storage amounts. You can see a full pricing comparison here.

Hopefully we’ll see a similar storage bump from Dropbox and other competing services.
