Acer Notebooks to Dual Boot Android and Windows

Good news for netbook buyers who like having options, DigiTimes is reporting that Acer plans to sell new netbooks with both Windows 7 and the Android operating systems pre-installed. The configuration, known as dual booting, means that consumers can choose which operating system they want to use every time they turn on their computer.

At a press conference announcing the new Acer netbooks which include a dual core Aspire One AOD255, the company cited the low cost of Android and the expectation of demand by customers as the reason behind the decision.

The Acer Aspire One AOD255 is a dual core netbook which we had previously seen running a dual-boot Windows 7/Android operating system, but the recent announcement of the device in the U.S. made no mention of the dual boot option.

The move is an interesting one since the Android marketplace is not usually made available to these non-phone devices locking out many of the cool apps that may draw in users and the Android OS is designed with a touchscreen in mind. It will be interesting to see if the dual boot configuration makes it to the States and how Acer manages to make Android attractive on a netbook.
