Toshiba BookPlace is an eBookstore for Laptops

There are already many eBook options for reading on your notebook including the Amazon Kindle for PC software, but starting today there’s another way to read eBooks on your laptop or notebook from Toshiba. The Toshiba Book Place is an eBook reader and store that is designed specifically with laptops in mind.

Toshiba Book Place offers access to over 1 million titles including free books and NY Times best sellers that can be purchased and downloaded to your notebook. The eReader offers highlighting, annotation as well as text and voice notes.

The reading experience in the Book Place allows for several different reading layouts in color that allow you to choose the best layout for the book you’re reading be it a textbook or a children’s picture book. With the Book Place software users can have the book read aloud to them and can sync the content between up to five devices.

As part of the launch users who download the app and sign up can receive four free books that include the following titles until October 12, 2010.

  • History’s Greatest Lies: The Startling Truths Behind World Events our History Books Got Wrong – William Weir
  • I Know an Old Teacher Anne Bowen and Stephen Gammell
  • Monster Boy’s Soccer Game, by Carl Emerson and Lon Levin Carl Emerson and Lon Levin
  • Knack Grilling Basics Linda Johnson Larsen

The Toshiba Book Place software is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and does not require the use of a Toshiba notebook.
