HP Teams up with AMD on New Notebooks

Several of  the new HP ProBook, Envy, Pavilion and Compaq notebooks announced today will feature AMD technology. Fourteen of the new consumer and business notebooks will be available with AMD processors. HP’s chosen high-end ATI GPUs with switchable graphics and Eyefinity for its premium Envy notebooks.

We’re used to seeing AMD processors offered as an option in many consumer notebooks, but this is the first time in recent memory that a manufacturer has launched so many notebooks with AMD processors offered right off the bat. It’s especially interesting that HP’s offering business customers AMD processors.

All of the HP notebooks with AMD processors will carry   AMD Vision logos. The Vision logo and marketing program is designed to clarify notebooks’ capabilities at a glance.

“Businesses and consumers can turn to HP not only for the deepest portfolio of notebook products, but also for a wide range of technology choices to meet specific mobile computing needs, ” said Ted Clark, senior vice president and general manager, Notebook Global Business Unit, Personal Systems Group, HP. “HP’s commitment to providing customers a choice of technology helps us maintain our position as the worldwide leader in notebook sales.”

HP notebooks with AMD processors will have lower starting prices compared to equivalent models with Intel processors.

HP’s new Envy 14 and Envy 17 feature the ATI Radeon HD5850 and 5650 GPUs. These graphics processors enable high-end graphics performance in the pair of premium notebooks. Both notebooks are equiped with ATI’s Eyefinity technology, which means you can output video to up to three external high-definition monitors simultaneously.

So which HP notebooks will have AMD processors inside?  Here is a current list:
