How to Find Out When Windows Was Last Shutdown

There are times when you might want to find out the last time you shut down your computer. There could be many reasons you’d want to know this. Maybe you want to see when you shutdown your computer during the last week, troubleshooting a Windows issue or to keep an eye on the usage of your notebook in your absence. If you want to know when it happened, there’s good news, you can find out this by using windows in built application ‘Event Viewer’.

Event Viewer is a component of Microsoft Operating System which lets the administrator or user to view the event logs on local or Remote Machine. This could be very handy if you want to keep an eye on kid to find out if he shut down the machine and went to bed when he was supposed to.

Here are steps to find out when your PC was shutdown.

Step 1:

a) If you are Windows 7 or Windows Vista user type Event Viewer on window start search Menu.

b) If you are Window XP user Go to window Start Menu and click on Run command and type eventvwr.msc and click OK button.

Step 2: The Windows Event Viewer menu will open.

Step 3: Now click on Windows logs” on left side of Event Viewer menu.

Step 4: Click ‘System’ on right side of window event viewer.

Step 5: After step4 you will see lot of system files on right side as below.

Step 6: Now, on right side of menu look for Event Id: 6006 (6006 is an Event ID for shutdown). This will tell you the last shut down time of your computer.

Please note that all the events in this menu are on descending order.

There are some time when you want to find out what was the last time when you shut down your pc to find some issue or for any other reason.

There are some situation when you want to find out what was the last time when your Desktop, Notebook shut down or may be the list of time for shutdown for last week. You may want to find out this because of couple of reasons like to find some issue or want to keep an eye on users of your PC. You can find out this by using windows in built application ‘Event Viewer’.

Step2: Window Event viewer menu will open.

Step 3: Now click on windows logs” on left side of window event viewer menu.

Step5: After step4 you will see lot of system files on right side as below.

Step6: Now on right side of menu look for Event Id: 6006 (6006 is an Event ID for shutdown). Now you know the last shut down time of your desktop/notebook. Please note that all the events in this menu are on descending order
