China Tried to Hack India’s Government Computers: NSA India

Ever since Google has come out and alleged that China hacked their systems, more & more countries are coming and joining the list of targeted countries. As of now India has joined the list and given some boost to Google’s fight against hackers.

India’s National Security Advisor M K Narayanan says, Chinese hackers tried to hack the National Security Advisor’s office computer on December 15. This is same date on which Google, the US Defense and several technology companies also reported the attack.

In one interview to British’s news paper M K Narayanan said that This was not the first instance of an attempt to hack into our computers”. He also added that India is co-operating with Britain and America to bolster its cyber defenses.

As per British’s news paper Times M K Narayanan said

The attack came in the form of an e-mail with a PDF attachment containing a Trojan” virus, which allows a hacker to access a computer remotely and download or delete files. The virus was detected and officials were told not to log on until it was eliminated”
People seem to be fairly sure it was the Chinese. It is difficult to find the exact source but this is the main suspicion. It seems well founded.
Mr Narayanan said he expected China to be an increasingly high priority for India’s security apparatus — but that the main threat still came from Pakistan-based militants, such as those blamed for the attack on Mumbai in November 2008
