Black Friday: HP G60 519WM Notebook for $298 at Walmart November 7th

Black Friday is starting early at Walmart this year. How early you ask; Saturday November 7th early!

That’s right this Saturday Walmart stores will offer the HP Pavilion G60-519WM Entertainment Laptop for $298 in stores while supplies last.  For $298 you get a 15.6″ screen, Intel Celeron processor, 3 GB of RAM, 250 GB hard drive and a Lightscribe DVD burner with Dual Layer support.

One thing to note is that this notebook uses an Intel Celeron processor rather than a faster dual-core or Core 2 duo processor; but it will handle everyday items like browsing the web, managing your photo collection and working on documents.

Just like last year’s Black Friday discounts on the HP G 60 series of notebooks this model number, 519WM, is exclusive to this discounted version of the HP G 60 notebooks. If you want to compare prices and specs you should look for similarly equipped HP Pavilion G 60 notebooks; rather than looking for the exact model at other retailers.

Similar notebooks at Walmart are in the $450 dollar range, and given the inclusion of Windows 7 and OK hardware, this deal is good for someone looking to do basic computing.

      It is definitely adequate for all that and basic games. It wouldn’t have the power for very graphic intensive games, like first person shooters (you know, the kind where people buy huge monitors and dedicate a whole corner of their house for gaming). I’m thinking of getting one for my wife, and I’m recommending it to my mother-in-law, too.

      This would not recommend this CPU for an engineering or architecture student. Programs like AutoCAD, SAS, etc require a beefy CPU for best results. You’ll need something with at least a dual-core (quad-core is better).

    Can you upgrade the Processor or the graphics card? I know the RAM is expandable to 4 GB, is it only DDR2?

      The short answer, No. Upgrading a CPU/GPU on a laptop is usually impossible since it’s harder for find compatible parts (unlike desktops). Even if all of the parts were available, it wouldn’t be cost effective. Upgrades for laptops are usually limited to Hard Drives, RAM, and sometimes optical drives. And yes, it has DDR2, but DDR3 isn’t much of an upgrade anyway.

        well i noticed that the processer has the same ghz as the dell studio which is about a 300 – 600 dollar differece. so the processer doesnt sound that bad

          If you’re looking at buying a laptop, do some research, it’s easy to shoot yourself in the foot if you aren’t sure and don’t know the right questions to ask.

I called HP and they said that the correct product specifications for this model is a 5400rpm hard drive and they do not know why it is listed as anything else.     I noticed the same spec. on the hard drive. A noticable difference between 5400 and 7200! I got one this morning and as far as Windows 7 performance it seems plenty speedy. I’ll have to look at the drive speed to make sure Walsmart wasnt’t leading us bargain hunters astray!

    I will definately upgrade to a full 4 GB since the price of that RAM will only go up in the near future now that DDR3 is here in full force.

    This is a practical laptop for the money. The display is plenty big and the sound surprisingly good! For another 100 bucks I don’t think you’d get much better. For another 400-500 on a different laptop, well then you can play many new games on one at higher detail but is it worth the money?

It’s still possible to download media on computers from two generations ago at reasonably sluggish speeds, though they sometimes struggle with high quality video; and this laptop, though a little on the dated side these days, is definitely not two generations old.

      If downloading music and video is all you’re into, go ahead and look at this, it’s a good machine for that.

    No, the touch pad is centered in the center of the keyboard but looks as if it's to the left due to the fact that the laptop has a full numeric keypad built in. So simply the answer to your question is NO. It only looks like it is because of the number pad. Hope this helps!!!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!! :^)

    I am thinking of getting this laptop for school age children to work on Microsoft Word documents and then they would also play games, but just like My HP games nothing high tech. Is this processor big enough for that. I just don't want a “slow” computer, but this seems like it will work for what I want based on the reviews. Would this work for what I'm after? thanks.

    This notebooks will work fine if you want to run Microsoft Word and play HP's simple games. This notebook is definitely slower than more expensive computers, but it is a good value at this price.

    The G60 can do what everything that you mentioned, but it may not be the best computer for you if you're going to be highly mobile. Are you going to college or are you taking online classes?

    WOuld this be good for a businees man who uses word Excell and Outlook. I basically want to be able ot work away form my office and to pull up proposal of copiers or connect to web based virtual demonstrations to show clients.
    I also want to cnnect to the web from anywhere.

    If you want to be highly mobile I'd suggest another machine. This computer can handle Excell and Outlook just fine, but it's definitely on the slow side. I recommend more horsepower and a machine that would get better battery life.

    Ok, im using a very slow computer desktop. I am thinking about getting this. Is it a good computer and medium to fast speed in downloading from limewire, playing poker on full tilt chatting in instant messengers, and using facebook and myspace? I will also be taking notes on it at school.

    I bought this laptop at the Black Friday sale at the Walmart in Owensboro, KY. Within 4 and 1/2 weeks it quit working. It just will not power on. Took it to a computer repair shop and they said the power supply is shot and will cost me $323 to replace it…if I do that, I've got $621 tied up in a laptop I was supposed to be getting a deal on. And of course, Walmart only carries a 30 day guarantee on the laptop and has no ideal who to send it to regarding the manufacturer's warranty. Crappy butt deal….thanks hp…thanks Walmart.
