SanDisk Point & Shoot Film Festival: Upload a Video, Win $10,000

Today’s the last day to enter the SanDisk Point & Shoot Film Festival. The memory-card maker is trying to raise awareness of the often neglected movie mode on your digital camera.

One winner will get a trip to Las Vegas for two and $10,000, which can go pretty quickly in Vegas. Ten Notebooks.com readers will win a SanDisk Ultra II 4GB SD card just for telling us what kind of movies they shoot with their digital cameras.

As much of a photo freak that I am, I have to admit that there are a lot of moments that are better preserved as videos than photos. What’s great about most point and shoot digital cameras is that they can record high-quality videos. Many point and shoots are even capable of recording HD video. While they don’t rival dedicated camcorders you can’t beat convenience.

Here’s a video I shot of my nephew blowing out his birthday candles with a Canon PowerShot SD750, which is a relatively affordable ($199) point and shoot camera. If you hit the fullscreen icon in the bottom-right of the video player you’ll see that the video quality is great considering its been downgraded by Blip.tv’s flash converter.

One issue with recording videos that you may come across is that they use a lot of memory. The clip above uses up 70MB of space on my SD card. If you want to record a lot of long clips you’ll probably want to get a high-capacity memory card and of course SanDisk is encouraging you to shoot lots of video this holiday season so you’ll need to buy more of them.

To enter the SanDisk Point & Shoot Film Festival visit SanDisk’s YouTube Page Here. There are five categories (Kids, Pet, Dance, Action and Comedy). The videos have to be unedited and less than two minutes long. 200 finalists will receive a SanDisk 4GB Ultra II SD card.

Regardless if you upload a movie to the SanDisk competition or not, you can win one of 10 SanDisk 4GB Ultra II SD cards from SanDisk here at Notebooks.com. Just tell us what digital camera you use and what kind of movies you’ve shot with it or will shoot with it. We’ll pick 10 random winners next Friday. Enter by commenting below.
