Toshiba Announces 320GB Notebook Drives

320GB Toshiba Notebook DriveToshiba announced it will begin producing the world’s highest capacity notebook drives. The MK3252GSX stores 320GB of data and spins at 5,400 RPM. The new Toshiba drives edges out Fujitsu’s 300GB model for highest capacity of any 2.5-inch drive.

Toshiba’s new 320GB drive has an 8MB buffer and 12ms seek time. It uses two 160GB platters and utilizes a shock sensor to protect data. The 320GB drive will start shipping in November as an option on high-end notebooks.

Toshiba is also rolling out several new notebook drives that spin at 7,200 RPM, with a 16MB buffer. The speedier models will top out at 200GB.
