Gateway’s New E-295C and C-140 Tablets

Gateway’s updated its line of convertible notebooks, aiming them directly at graphic artists and students. This 14-inch tablet features Wacom digital pen technology and Intel Core 2 Duo processors.

The E-295C is the professional version of the new tablet, while the C-140 series is a toned-down version for home and home-office users.

“Digital artists who rely on the latest and greatest technology as a medium for expressing their work will appreciate the benefits of our newest convertible notebook,” said Gary Elsasser, Gateway senior vice president, products. “Its ergonomic design and advanced capabilities make it an extremely intuitive and practical mobile device for digital content creation of all types.”

The E-295C /C-140’s battery-free Gateway stylus is pressure sensitive, with 256 levels of sensitivity. Speaking of batteries, Gateway claims the new tablets can get up to 10.6 hours of battery life with an extended battery pack.

Users can chose between an ATI Mobility Radeon HD X2300 with 256MB PCI Express Graphics video controller, or Intel’s Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 shared graphics sollution.

Like last year’s Gateway’s M-285E, the M-295E/C-140 has a magnesium lid and frame. The swiveling display is attached with an alloy hinge and is held in place when closed by a pair of magnetically-activated latches.

The new convertibles can be configured with up to 4GB of RAM, 120GB hard drive, Bluetooth 2.0, fingerprint reader and a multi-format DVD burner.

The Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD) is a longtime Gateway customer, and some of the faculty rave that tablet computing makes learning faster.

“Tablet computing brings remarkable benefits to student productivity and learning,” said Dan Seely, Department Chair. “Traditional animation drawing with pencil and paper is a multifaceted and time consuming process. But with the use of animation software and electronic ink and paper, our students have quickly overcome the ‘paper scan bottleneck,’ which can make it difficult for them to get work done.”

The C-140 starts at $1,099 and the E-295C starts at $1,549. The convertible notebooks can be configured with either Windows XP Tablet Edition or Windows Vista.
