Smaller Notebooks w/Optical Drives on the Backside?

Apple Optical Drives on Bottom

Apple filed a patent for a design to trim some fat off its notebook computers by placing optical drives on the bottom rather than the side of the notebook. This seems like odd placement for an optical drive, but the guys over at Unwired View think it’s not as bad as it sounds:

Think about it. How often do you really need the optical disc access? And when inserting or taking out the disc you stop other things you are doing on your Mac Book anyway. So is it really that much more trouble to close the lid, turn over you notebook and then insert the disc?

If implemented the right way it really might work. And if anyone can do it right, itâ€â„¢s Apple.
