Radio shack is offering a free $15 gift card with the purchase of an 8GB iPod Nano on Black Friday. Radio Shack is not offering a discount on the iPod Nano, keeping with the MSRP of $149.99 on Black Friday.

The iPod Nano has a multi-touch display and a number of other improvements compared to last year’s iPod Nano. It is extremely compact, making it easy to clip on a shirt or bag. While most people would be very happy to receive the iPod Nano as a gift, the iPod Touch is a significantly better value since it runs iOS4 and virtually all of the apps built for iPhone. The iPod Touch retails for $229, but you’ll be able to get a great deal this Black Friday in the form of a $20 to $50 gift card.

The iPod Nano will be available at select Radio Shack locations with the free $15 gift card.

Radio Shack will be giving away $20 gift card with the purchase of an 8GB iPod Touch on Black Friday. There are a number of stores offering similar deals on Black Friday however, and we advise going elsewhere if you’re after an iPod Touch deal.

Apple retailers typically don’t offer significant discounts on iPods and other Apple gear. Instead, they often throw in freebies to sweeten the deal. The MSRP of the 8GB iPod Touch is $229 and you won’t find it much cheaper than this, even on Black Friday.

This is the current generation iPod Touch, which is capable of running all of the most recent iOS4 apps. It comes with dual cameras for HD video recording and FaceTime.

The best Black Friday deal we’ve found on the 8GB iPod Touch is from Wal-mart, which will be selling for $225 and throwing in a free $50 Wal-mart gift card. Best Buy has a similar deal, but you’ll get a $30 Best Buy gift card instead.

According to a leaked Black Friday ad scan we’ve seen, Radio Shack will sell a minimum of two iPod Touches per retail location with the $20 gift card. Many retailers offer very limited quantities of their Black Friday deals, which means it can often be difficult to actually get the iPod with the free $20 gift card. We typically see minimum quantities for Black Friday deals in the five to 25 range. This year, Radio Shack seems to be offering very limited quantities of its hottest Black Friday deals. Keep in mind that your local Radio Shack may have more units at this price, but your mileage will vary.

Radio Shack will be selling the Acer Aspire One AOD255 for just $179 on Black Friday. This is a $100 discount off this Acer netbook’s everyday price and a good value if you’re in the market for a simple, portable machine.

This Acer netbook comes with a 10.1″ display, 1GB of memory (RAM), and a 160GB hard drive. It uses a power efficient Intel Atom processor that is sufficient for basic computing tasks such as Web browsing, email and productivity.

The Acer Aspire One is a good value to begin with, and an excellent value at $179. Unfortunately, it may be difficult to actually buy one at this price on Black Friday as Radio Shack is only guaranteeing one unit per retail location. Black Friday retailers, such as Wal-mart and Best Buy, often limit the quantities of their best deals at each retail location, but the minimums typically range from five to 25 units.

I didn’t get an iPhone 4 preordered with Apple. The reservation I made at the Best Buy in my area fell through since they claim they only got 2 of the 32GB iPhone 4 models. So I gave up all hope of getting an iPhone 4 on launch day.

Today I was driving to Greensboro to pick up my son and I heard that some Apple Stores still had the iPhone 4 available. On a lark I went to the Apple Store in Greensboro, NC to see if I could get lucky and get one on launch day. I found two lines; one for those who had preordered which still had about 50 people in it 4 hours after the store opened and another for people who didn’t reserve an iPhone 4 which was a little bit longer.

I got in the line and they had some yellow crowd control barriers up to keep us in line.” The Apple staff passed out water which many drank down and left there on the side. If they hadn’t regularly been cleaning up I am sure it would have been a real mess. The also gave some umbrellas to ward off the hot sun. It was well over 90 degrees. Not sure what the temperature was on that hot pavement.

After about thirty minutes, the staff had come out to count the people three times. Since we were not told they didn’t have enough iPhone 4′s n stock, we believed they did. How could they let us wait like this in the heat knowing they didn’t have enough for us?

Sadly, our faith in their humanity was dashed. About thirty minutes later, we were told specifically that there were no more phones to be sold today. The only reason we got that information was a belligerent customer who had been waiting since 5:00 am got quite loud and angry. To appease him the store manager came out and finally gave us the bad new. He said all he could do was put our name on a list.” Thinking a person with a legal pad, or at least some person with an iPod Touch, would be coming in the next few minutes to get our names, we waited. We waited another 15 minutes when another employee came out to pick up empty water bottles. She told the lady three people in front of me that there was still a chance to get a 32 GB iPhone 4, so I kept waiting.

It was a total of 90 minutes from arrival before I finally got in the door. Handing off my umbrella, I was taken to an iMac where I simply was told to log into my Apple iTunes account and click a reserve button. The nice clerk said it would hopefully be tomorrow.” After all the misinformation we were given, I’m not going to hold my breath. But they belief is that some of the phones reserved will be made available after people don’t pick them up on the 24th. They will make them available some time on the 25th to those of us who got on the list” at that store. Of course to get it I will have to drive back to Greensboro, a two hour trip.

Mine was not the only bad experience. I know of at least one person who wanted to get an iPhone at a WalMart and found they had only one in stock. I called the local WalMart and they didn’t even get that many. Same for Radio Shack and even AT&T. After not getting rewarded by my reservation” at a Best Buy, I got an email today from them asking me to buy one online. Of course they are sold out. Someone shouldn’t have hit send with that one. I guess Apple decided to keep a larger supply of the products this time around.

All of this taught me a few things:

1. Apple loves the publicity two news crews were here recording the happenings four hours after the store opened.
2. My dislike for the company was only confirmed, yet I love their hardware. My son and I hung out looking at the display models and they look pretty cool.
3. By my best estimate about fifty people were put on the waiting list at that store. My son didn’t understand why they wouldn’t sell us a display model.
4. Apple fans are a dedicated bunch and Jobs and company have a loyal customer base. Not sure that is very well deserved.
5. People can be really mean. These poor employees are not making the decisions that caused the troubles like poor pre-order experience, cancelled orders, and long wait in the hot sun. But people sure can treat them poorly. If you yelled at some poor Apple employee who was not rude to you, shame on you!
