The company sells three different products. For $1.99 you can have the “Small Applecore” which is designed for your earbuds, headphones or other very thin cords. The “Medium Applecore” is $2.99. It is meant for things like a syncing cable for your iPod, iPhone or iPad. It could also be used for thinner needs. The “Large Applecore” is intended for household appliance power cords, like a lamp cable. It is $4.99. We could see this being used for beefier cables too.

All three sizes come in black, white, red, yellow, orange and green.

For the price these look like a good solution. We’ve tried a number of things from fancy cable managers for your MacBook to simple retractable cables. But simple seems better. The slot in the top and bottom of the core is the key to these working.

Right now, if you purchase a song from iTunes you get to download it once, and then are responsible for backing it up and transferring it to your other computers and devices. You can authorize a limited number of computers. According to Bloomberg, Apple is working with the music labels to get an unlimited download program in place which would allow users to purchase once and download anywhere.

This means you could potentially purchase a song on your iPhone, download it and being listening like normal. Before you synced up with your computer, you could also download the song on your MacBook, Windows PC, netbook and your iPad. Just like you can re-download your apps or your kindle books multiple times on multiple devices, you would be able to re-download your music.

This would be a big win for users who currently waste time getting their music on their devices, after they have already purchased and downloaded to one location. If Apple is able to negotiate this deal, it could be a portion of the reason behind the North Carolina data center which had been expected to support a relaunch of MobileMe and cloud streaming of iTunes.

Right now, it looks like Apple wants this feature, but it could be blocked by music industry execs, who want more money. More than likely, the record companies will continue to think like record companies, and fight the idea or ask for an extra fee to be lobbied for the privilege of using the music you have already purchased.

iOS 4.2.1 will automatically download and prompt user to update when they plug into a computer with  iTunes 10.1 installed. The upgrade process is fairly straightforward, but you should make sure to sync your iPad or iPhone to the computer so that you have a backup in the event that anything happens.

In addition to adding over 100 new features to the iPad like AirPlay, AirPrint, Multitaskiing and folders; iOS4.2 also is rumored to bring speed improvements to the iPhone 3G.

In addition to the new features, Find My iPhone (or iPod Touch or iPad) is now available for free without a MobileMe Subscription, like we reported last week.

iOS 4.2. Won’t Download:

If iTunes tells you that your current version iOS 3.2.2 is up to date, you are not alone, many users are reporting issues upgrading to iOS 4.2 and it is suggested that the update may not actually download until 10 AM Pacific.

Many developers have already updated their iPad apps to work with iOS 4.2, most notably adding support for multitasking so that you can listen to music or sync while you do other things.

If you have a jailbroken iPad and want to go unjailbreak it for iOS 4.2, you just need to back it up and then restore your iPad. Rumor has it that an iOS 4.2 jailbreak is on the way, so you may want to wait until it is official if jailbreaking is important to you.

So what is IOS 4.2 and why should you care? IOS 4.2 is a version of Apple’s mobile operating system that will finally unify most of the look, feel and software features found on the iPhone 4 with the iPad. The iPad still runs a version of iOS 3, which is the same mobile operating system that originally shipped with the iPhone 3GS and previous versions of the iPod touch. Many features that iPhone 4 users take for granted, such as multi-tasking and app folders, are simply not available on the iPad as of today. Applications written specifically for iOS4 do not offer the same experience on the iPad as on the iPhone or iPod Touch.

Apple’s promised over 100 new features for the iPad with the release of iOS4.2. Some of the most anticipated iOS 4.2 features for iPad are Airplay and multitasking. Currently, users can only use a single app at a time and can’t run media apps, such as Pandora, in the background while browsing on Safari or using any other app. When iOS 4.2 is finally released, iPad users will be able to keep multiple apps open at a time, allowing them to quickly switch between apps.    Airplay is a feature that will allow iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch users to stream music and video to their TVs via Apple TV boxes.

Many iPad users have complained that their iPads feel stale when compared to their other Apple mobile devices. Currently, the experience is inconsistent and is frustrating many iPad users.
