]]> Originally announced in Mid-June this year, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d is now available for purchase in the US, starting at $1499.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d is the company’s first 3D-capable laptop. Utilizing technology from TriDef, the laptop turns two-dimensional content into 3D, when viewed with the included polarized 3D glasses. It is geared towards gamers, as well as multimedia enthusiasts. Other highlighted features include:

  • 15.6-inch HD widescreen display
  • 1.6GHz Intel Core i7-720QM processor
  • 4GB DDR3 RAM
  • 500GB HDD
  • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 with 1GB VRAM

The newly released IdeaPad Y560d ships with 19 business days for a starting price of $1499.

The Y560d is an update to the IdeaPad Y560 which we looked at during CES and came with an option for 3D glasses for people who with glasses.

Other 3D laptops that have been announced lately that you should keep your eye on are the Acer Aspire 5738DG, Toshiba Satellite A655 3D edition, and various models by Asus.

]]> The upcoming Acer Aspire 5738DG is the first commercial notebook to come equipped with a 3D display which Acer is calling ‘TriDef’ (see what they did there?). The screen is most likely using a stereoscopic screen as it requires the user to wear the included polarized glasses in order to view 3D content using the notebook, but don’t worry, said glasses aren’t your standard cheapo cardboard and plastic red/blue glasses. Acer says that the in spectacles are sporty and stylish”, now all you need to do is decide whether or not you trust Acer’s sense of fashion…. Luckily, used without glasses, the notebook’s screen functions just like one would expected if it lacked a 3D display.

aspire 5738dg PCMag has gone hands-on with the yet released Aspire 5738DG and let’s us know how the display really functions. PCMag’s article can’t seem to stay away from the work gimmick” which in itself should make you realize that 3D displays are not the wave of the future. Though at least they say that the screen manages to provide a somewhat worthwhile experience, with (supported) games seeming to benefit the most from the 3D feature. Aside from the 3D display, the 5738DG is decidedly ordinary. At least it won’t cost too much. The 5738DG is a budget desktop replacement laptop and should be available for around $700.
