LogMeIn is an essential tool for many of the writers here at Notebooks so we were excited to see that LogMeIn Ignition, which is our go to iPad remote computer app, is coming to HoneyComb soon and bringing a few new features. Also, Laptop Magazine found out that Join.me, a free live Windows screen sharing tool will be coming to Android as a viewer.
LogMeIn Ignition for HoneyComb is an upgrade from the current version which is designed for the small screen of Android smart phones and brings a collection of new features to allow for enhanced usability on the larger screens of tablets like the Motorola Xoom. Most notably, there is now a virtual mouse, like on the iPad, with left and right buttons that you can drag around the screen. The settings have also been moved to a dropdown instead of existing on a separate screen. Finally, a new Action bar with it that allows you to search for computers you have connected and you can use slide out “fragments” to get quick access to more information.
Join.me was also demoed for Android, allowing smart phone users to view a remote users screen with an invitation. This tool would be helpful for talking about a document or items that you really need to see to understand.
Both LogMeIn Ignition for HoneyComb and Join.me will be available this spring. It’s not clear if users who have LogMeIn Ignition on an Android smartphone will have to buy another app for access.
