iPhone 5 Launch Could be Pushed Back to September

Since June 2007, Apple fans have been able to mark the middle of the year with the release of a new iPhone. It’s so expected now that you could plan your vacations around it, like Apple Store employees must. But this year things may be different, at least according to analyst Craig Berger of FBR Capital Markets who thinks that a July  launch for the iPhone 5 is “unlikely” for a variety of reasons.

Berger points to a collection of reasons for a delayed iPhone launch,

  • Casing suppliers are still getting ready
  • Touch suppliers still ramping up
  • Chip vendors not yet receiving orders
  • Vendors and supplier choices still up in the air

The news would be a change from the norm, but could line up with a rumored iPad 2 launch delay and would do more to provide spacing between the iPhone 4 launch on Verizon and a new iPhone that might work on both AT&T and Verizon. Berger doesn’t point to the iPhone Nano rumors, but if true it could give Apple more time to prepare a new product.
