The newest HP EliteBook models have arrived and with the refresh we now have a new HP EliteBook 8460p 14″ business class notebook. The new EliteBook 8460p comes with the newest Sandy Bridge processors and a new design which enhances the usability of the device while delivering an streamlined look and easy access for IT managers to get in and perform upgrades. In addition to the HP 8640p, HP updated the 15.6″ HP EliteBook 8560p with similar features.
HP EliteBook 8460p Quick Specs:
The HP EliteBook 8460p will make use of the newest Intel Sandy Bridge processors which will be paired with up to 16GB DDR3 RAM and numerous hard drive options from standard or encrypted to SSD. The 8460p also has the ability to come with the AMD Radeon HD 6740 GPU with 1GB VRAM. This powers the 14″ display which comes standard with a 1366×768 resolution and can be upgraded to a 1600×900 HD+ display.
The 8460p has both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 support as well as the option for Bluetooth 2.1 EDR. The upgrade bay can be configured with an optical drive or with a secondary hard drive. There are also numerous broadband connectivity options to keep connected on the go.
HP EliteBook 8460p Durability:
From a durability standpoint the HP EliteBook 8460p carries over many of the features found in the rest of the EliteBook line, but adds and enhances them with this refresh.
Notable Durability Enhancements Include:
- HP DisplaySafe – Doubleshot rubber ring that keeps the screen from pressing on the keys when in a backpack and keeps out debris.
- Longer Barrel Hinge – The new hinge is much longer and provides increased strength and durability.
- Better Drainage – HP has revamped the keyboard drainage hole and system to better handle spills.
- MicroScreen Filters – New filters cover the vents to keep dust out of systems.
- Rugged Standards – The 8460p has a rated to Mil-STD 810G for drop, vibration, dust, humidity, altitude and high temperature.
HP EliteBook 8460p Features:
A bevy of new features can be found on the EliteBook 8460p including a new easy access panel that allows IT admins to get in to the notebooks without any tools for upgrades and repairs. The panel can be secured with a single security screw if the IT department desires it.
Other functional improvements include a new island style keyboard that looks nice thanks to the metal finish that flanks the keys. The island style is gaining favor with many users and it looks great on this notebook.
Another change is the introduction of a much larger mousepad, almost double the size, with gesture support. The new mousepad also retains the pointing stick and second set of mouse buttons.
Another change is cosmetic and works well with the new sleeker design, less annoying LED indicators. The new LED indicators are smaller and moved out of your line of site so that you aren’t spending all day looking at blinking lights.

The EliteBook 8460p has numerous battery solutions depending on your needs, from 3-cell up to 9-cell, but the most impressive is the ability to achieve up to 32 hours of battery life with HP Ultra-Capacity battery.
