Chrome Cr-48 Destroyed: Why Working in the Cloud Has Advantages

The Google Chrome notebook Cr-48, which we are in the process of reviewing, lives entirely in the cloud. Even though it has a hard drive for offline work, the real magic is in having your data always accessible — even if your notebook gets destroyed, something Google has decided to show us in the gut wrenching, laptop busting video below.

You don’t need to have a Chrome Laptop to enjoy the pleasure of working in the cloud. For a long time we’ve had a similar set up using the Google Chrome browser to sync bookmarks to another computer, using Google Docs and keeping anything else in Dropbox. Sure, it takes a bit more than 60 seconds, but we do have access to our data on a new computer in a couple minutes.

Be sure to check out our additional Chrome Laptop review series including 3G setup at GottaBeMobile.
