HP Slate 500 Announced – Hands on with HP’s Windows 7 Slate (Video)

HP has just made the HP Slate 500 Tablet PC official. The HP Slate, shown off in early stages way back in January, has had a long road to becoming an official product but it is indeed real and will be available in the U.S. for $799 including a HP Slate Digital Pen, HP Slate Dock (with HDMI out) and HP Slate Portfolio.

The HP Slate 500 is aimed at corporate users who need to be able to access Windows application ins a more portable form factor. At 1.5 pounds the Intel Atom Z540 (1.86GHz) powered HP Slate 500 fits that bill. The 8.9″ capacitive screen offers a 1024 x 600 (or 1024 x768 for some apps) resolution while the Wifi and Bluetooth connectivity options provide on the go access to important systems.

The included Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator should provide the power needed to display 1080P HD video on the slate. The HP Slate 500 comes with one built in USB 2.0 port for connecting a printer, keyboard or mouse as well as an SD card slot for easy access to pictures or to supplement the 64GB of built in flash memory. When connected to the HP Slate 500 dock users will gain a HDMI port to connect an external monitor and an additional two USB 2.0 ports.

The HP Slate 500 has two cameras, a front facing VGA webcam for chatting and a 3MP camera on the rear that can be used to capture photo and video. The HP Slate 500 comes with a 2-cell 30WHr battery, but no estimated life was given.

The HP Slate will come with Evernote pre-installed to allow users to use the HP Slate Digital Pen or your finger for taking notes in meetings or inking an email. The Digital Pen uses a Wacom active digitizer for stylus based note taking. According to the experts at GottaBeMobile the HP Slate 500 likely has N-Trig duosense technology which offers the best of both worlds for touchscreen use.
