HP G62-234DX: $499 Entertainment Notebook with LightScribe Technology

| August 9, 2010 | 7 Comments

Best Buy has the HP G62-234DX Intel Core i3 powered notebook available for the back to school season for $499.99. This HP notebook is a Best Buy Exclusive that comes with Windows 7 Home Premium and Microsoft Office Starter 2010.

The HP G62-234DX features a 2.26GHz Intel Core i3 processor, a 15.6-inch display, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and a multi-format disk  drive with LightScribe technology which allows for labels to be printed directly on disks. All of these features come together to form a powerful entertainment notebook that would suit the needs of most college students.

This is a mid-range notebook, due to its low-end, but current Intel processor and integrated Intel graphics. Using the Intel Core i3 processor in cohorts with the 4GB of DDR3 RAM, this notebook can handle most tasks and applications that students would need. It could handle basic functions, such as web browsing, email, streaming movies, and editing photos as well as light video editing. However, modern gaming may not perform well on this HP notebook, due to the integrated graphics processor. Games with high frame rates may appear choppy or pixellated.

Complaints about the HP G62-234DX include a stiff mouse button and a trackpad that is easily bumped while typing. However, these complaints pale in comparison to the many strengths. A common strength is the overall design of the HP G62-234DX. One reviewer stated, “Unlike most laptops, the attractive matte biscotti finish does NOT show every fingerprint on its surface.” Additionally, users noted the exceptional speed and quality, especially when the brand and price are considered.

If you are looking for a notebook that can handle modern gaming and don’t mind spending another $100, the HP Pavilion dv5-2035dx offers similar specs with the substitution of discrete graphics instead of integrated graphics. The ATI Mobility Radeon HD4250 graphics processor could handle modern high frame rate games with more ease than Intel’s HD graphics.

This is a fantastic computer for the price. I went to Best Buy on line and purchased the G62-234DX (sold exclusively at Best buy) during our “Tax Free” weekend in Massachusetts. I had infinite problems when I went to pick it up at the scheduled store. THEY WERE SOLD OUT! I have been waiting for this savings and to find this great laptop at $499.99 was divine intervention. Seekonk store was letting me down so I they called the Attleboro Best Buy and they had 25 in stock. When I got there through all the traffic, thousands of people trying to save and extra 6.5%- me included. They only had the Geek Squad Set Up note books left. Naturally it was an extra cost. I spoke with the manager of the department and told her of my troubles and she sold me one at the sale price of $499.99. HORRAY FOR BEST BUY AND HP!

This was a complete false offer!!!. I bought it on line to pick it up at the store and it was not available, although I have received the email to pick it up.
