I agree with Aaron. Worth Ave. Group's iPhone insurance coverage is so much better than SquareTrade. And Worth Ave. Group is cheaper, too.

SquareTrade is not even close to the best coverage available.

Worth Ave. Group beats SquareTrade every day of the week, AND they cover theft.

Squaretrade is by far the best program available. It will also cover for accidental damage from handling. Applecare does not provide this coverage which is a predominant cause of loss (I.e. cracked screens)

Another alternative to look into is your credit card's purchase protection plan. For example, American Express doubles the manufacturer's warranty on all purchases (up to $1,000 or $10,000 depending on the type of card you have). It doesn't protect theft or losses, but it does cover iPhones that go bad outside of the 1-year warranty.
Some credit cards, including American Express will also cover theft/physical damage of iPhones (and other gadgets) for the first few months after your purchase.

If you back out all of this out, the $13.99 per month might look less appetizing.
