It will also cover for accidental damage from handling. For example, American Express doubles the manufacturer's warranty on all purchases (up to $1,000 or $10,000 depending on the type of card you have). It doesn't protect theft or losses, but it does cover iPhones that go bad outside of the 1-year warranty. <br>Some credit cards, including American Express will also cover theft/physical damage of iPhones (and other gadgets) for the first few months after your purchase. <br><br>If you back out all of this out, the $13.99 per month might look less appetizing.
