Review: Waterfield Designs iPad Smart Case

For the past month I have been on the search for the perfect iPad case. I haven’t found it yet, but I’m pretty close.

iPad Smart Case

We showed you some iPad cases about the time that the original iPad was released from Waterfield Designs. They looked like really nice cases so we asked if we could test one out. I chose the iPad Smart Case. We received it late last week and I’ve been testing it out ever since. Here is my video review for you. Pros and Cons are listed after the video.

As you can see it is a very nice case. I like the snug fit, the large front pocket and the material on the inside that not only protects it from scratches but also helps clean the screen, something necessary with the iPad. I don’t like the color of this case, but the picture below shows another color and on their web site you will see that there are six different colors to choose from. Finally, the cost makes this a little bit of an investment. They are not cheap at $59.99. But it is a very nice case and does seem to protect the screen from external bumps and dings. And you can store your peripherals outside the compartment that houses the iPad which alleviates any potential scratches on the screen.

Of the four different cases I’ve tried so far, this is the nicest one. But it is also the most expensive.

I’ve also reviewed one from Speck and the Apple iPad case. My colleague Josh Smith also reviewed a Speck case.

Pros:

  • High quality design and build
  • Nice large accessory pocket
  • Inside protects and helps clean the screen
  • Feels good while carrying
  • Thick protective panels
  • Many colors to choose from
  • Snug fit top keep the iPad in place

Cons:

  • A little expensive
  • No strap or button across the top to secure the iPad
