If you already PAY for Internet on your smart phone (data plans that come with most new phones anyway), then why not be able to use it on your pc as well? We pay enough, monthly charges, taxes, usage...you should be able to do what you want by now! :)

I don't see anything wrong with tethering. A person pays for the internet on their phone and they should be able to do as they please with it. The phone companies are just greedy.

I use a moto droid, and im very upset vzw has chosen to only allow our phones to tether through settings>wireless and networking>tether if we purchase the stupid 5g a month Broadband plan, NO UNLIMITED DATA PLAN allowed. Leaving me to use pdanet or Tether. (the third party program for bb/android) I dont understand why they let some smartphones get online with any plan and others only high end

I seem to be able to tether my Droid X to my Macbook Pro (running 2.1 on the X and 10.6.4 on the mac) via bluetooth, and I have the most basic data and voice plan available. I had the connection up and running within 60 seconds of pairing the devices for the first time, just using the mac's network preference pane. Anyone else come across this feature?

I've been using a Motorola Droid for about 3 months now and have been rooted for about 2 of those 3. The Wi-Fi tethering I get with the phone via the wireless adapter inside, is moderately fast depending on the 3g coverage. It's my opinion that if you pay for the data plan, and can manage to root and get things going...then your well within your right to tether. I really don't think the percentage of rooted users who are actually successful using the wi-fi tether, are even that high. Verizon's just looking to squeeze as much money out of it's subscribers pockets as possible. My 2 cents.

I would be OK paying Verizon for wireless tethering, but I don't think they even have wired tether worked out for the Droid. I hope they spend more time giving users a better service to pay for before they try and crackdown on those of us who just want our Droid to do what it can. After all, Droid Does.
