rr580One of the most striking notebooks from CES 2010 for me was the Samsung R series notebooks which made a splash with an “invisible touchpad”. These wonderful looking and well equipped notebooks are now available at Best Buy at attractive prices; especially considering that the R480 and R580 include Blu-Ray drives.

The three new Samsung notebooks are priced as follows;

  • 14″ Samsung R480 with Blu-Ray – $730 – Intel Core i3
  • 15″ Samsung R580 with Blu-Ray – $830 – Intel Core i5
  • 17″ Samsung R780 w/o Blu-Ray – $930 – Intel Core i5 (online only soon)

The 14″ R480 includes an 8 Cell battery and packs in a 1366×768 resolution as well as a 500GB hard drive. The R580 and R780 both inlcude a more powerful graphics processor, NVIDIA GeForce 310M and GT330M respectively, and the 17″ R780 is able to pull off a 1600 x 900 resolution.

    I'm concerned about a tech writer who sees a laptop with an Arrandale cpu and GMA4500 and doesn't stop to think what's wrong with this picture. So you're telling me they disable the much more capable on-chip graphics and installed yesterdays news?

  2. Josh Smith says:

    True, the R480 has the GMA4500, but the R580 has a more powerful NVIDIA GPU. It is odd, but I'm not sure why they made that choice.

  3. Rod says:

    I went to Best Buy to see for myself and indeed it had GMA HD like it should. Samsung would have to have blind retarded monkeys with brain damage and dysentery designing their systems to put a GMA4500 with an Arrandale CPU. Anyway it seemed like I nice machine, but the R580 – what a beast, that thing is absolutely stacked for the price.

  7. JNovak326 says:

    Does anyone know if there are 8 or 12 cell batteries available for these machines? The 6 cell only lasts 1.30 hours if you're lucky on the R780.

  8. Guilherme says:
